About Filament Select
A colour search engine for 3D printing filament. You bring a colour; it tells you which real spools come closest, and where to get them.
The catalog
The site currently tracks 18,777 colour variants across 2291 product lines from 246 brands. Each colour is stored with its hex, RGB and CIELAB values, its material and finish, and any retailer listings we have recorded for it.
Colour data is only as good as its source, so every value carries a provenance flag: measured from a physical print, published by the manufacturer, sampled from an official product image, or estimated. Estimated values are starting points that get replaced as colours are verified — 0 of the current entries are still in that state, and the filament pages say so plainly rather than presenting a guess as a measurement.
Data sources
The catalog combines measured swatches from filamentcolors.xyz, physical and product data from SpoolmanDB, and broad brand, variant and retailer coverage from the Open Filament Database. Filament Select retains provenance on each entry and gives measured values priority over manufacturer, product-image and estimated values.
Credit to Joe Kaufeld for the physical filament swatch measurements and to Donkie and the SpoolmanDB and Open Filament Database contributors for maintaining reusable community data.
How it makes money
Some purchase links may be affiliate links, which may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Commission plays no part in ranking: matches are ordered by CIEDE2000 colour difference and nothing else, and a filament with no affiliate link at all will outrank one that has a link if it is the closer colour.
Corrections
If a colour is wrong, it probably is — and the fastest way to fix the catalog is to hear about it. Measured values from real prints are more valuable than anything that can be scraped.
