Privacy policy

The short version
Filament Select has no user accounts, no newsletter and no login. It does not ask you for your name or email address to browse or save colors. Optional data reports can contain text you choose to provide; please do not include personal or sensitive details. We use Google Analytics to see which pages and retailer links are used; in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it only runs if you allow it, and anyone can turn it off.
What is stored in your browser
Recent searches and your shortlist are saved in this browser’s local storage. Clearing the browser’s site data removes them. Color values are sent to our matching service when you search. Opening your shortlist sends its product identifiers to our catalog to refresh the saved details; it does not create an account.
A preference cookie remembers the storefront region selected from your hosting-provided country code for up to 180 days. You can change the region filter or clear site data. If you switch match scores between a percentage and ΔE, a second preference cookie remembers that choice for up to a year. Your analytics choice, if you make one, is kept in local storage so you are not asked again.
If you use the image color picker, the image is read directly in your browser and drawn to a canvas to sample a pixel. It is never uploaded. It is not stored, not transmitted, and is discarded when you close the page.
Data correction reports
The product, selected category and any explanation you provide are sent to site maintainers for review. When direct submission is enabled, reports are stored through GitHub. If an email option is offered, your email app opens a draft for you to review and send; sending it shares your email address and message with support.
When direct submission is enabled, the service temporarily uses your IP address for a per-instance submission limit. It does not include that address in the issue. GitHub and our hosting provider process requests under their own policies.
Server logs
This site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard request logs — IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp — as part of operating the service. Those logs are Vercel’s and are subject to their retention policy. We do not build profiles from them.
Affiliate links and cookies
Some purchase links may be affiliate links. Filament Select participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. Other retailer links may run through affiliate networks such as ShareASale, Impact or Awin when those programs are active.
When you click one of those links, the destination retailer or its affiliate network may set a cookie in your browser to attribute a later purchase. That cookie is set by them, on their domain, under their privacy policy — not by us. We never receive your order details, your payment information or your identity. When a program is active, we may receive an aggregate commission report.
Filament Select sets no advertising cookies. The only cookies it sets are the two preferences above and, if analytics is on, Google Analytics’ cookies, described below.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google, to learn which pages are useful, which colors people search for and which retailers they go on to visit, so we can improve the catalog. It records:
- the pages you view, the page you arrived from, and how far you scroll;
- the hex color of a color search;
- when you follow a link to a retailer: the retailer, the filament’s brand, name and material, and whether it was an affiliate link;
- your device and browser type, and an approximate location (country and city) that Google derives from your IP address. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses.
It sets first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_4CM15DNZBY, which let it tell a returning browser from a new one and last up to two years. Analytics data is kept for 14 months. Google signals and advertising features are turned off: this data is not used for ads, not combined with your Google account, and not sold. Google processes it for us under its data processing terms; see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, the Google Analytics script is not loaded at all until you allow it. Elsewhere it is on by default, except in browsers that send a Global Privacy Control signal, which we treat as a no. Wherever you are, you can change your choice here at any time; turning it off also deletes the cookies above.
You have not made a choice in this browser. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland analytics stays off until you allow it; elsewhere it is on unless your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal.
Google also offers a browser add-on that blocks Google Analytics on every site.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. Please do not include information about children or other personal details in data correction reports.
Your rights
You can clear recent colors, your shortlist and preferences through your browser’s site data controls, and change your analytics choice in the section above. If a report includes information you want removed, contact support through the same channel you used to submit it. Do not include additional sensitive information when requesting help.

Changes
Material changes will be reflected in the date at the top of this page. Additions such as new analytics data or accounts will be described here before they are enabled.
